Garden irrigation and watering systems

Most people think of a plumber for bathrooms and leaks, but I also fit garden watering systems that look after your garden for you. If you're tired of dragging a hosepipe round every summer evening, or you go away and come back to thirsty plants, an irrigation system is worth thinking about.

How a watering system works

An irrigation system is a set of pipes and outlets laid around the garden, fed from your water supply. It puts water where your plants need it, rather than spraying it everywhere. Depending on the garden, that might mean:

  • Drip lines along borders, beds and hedges, which water slowly at the roots.
  • Sprinklers for lawns and open areas.
  • Feeds to pots and planters on a patio.
  • A timer, so the garden can be watered early in the morning or in the evening without you having to remember.

Every garden is different, so I'll look at yours before suggesting anything.

Planning it properly

The best time to think about irrigation is before the garden is finished, but it can usually be added to an established garden too. When I come round, I'll walk round with you to look at the layout, where the water can come from and which areas need the most attention. Then we'll work out where the pipes can run so they're out of sight and out of the way.

If you haven't got one already, I can fit an outside tap at the same time.

Why use a plumber

At heart, irrigation is plumbing. It needs a sensible connection to your water supply, joints that won't leak and pipe runs that make sense. With twenty years in the trade, I'll make sure it's done neatly and works the way it should.

How it works

  1. Tell me about your garden. Photos are a big help.
  2. I'll pop round and have a look.
  3. You get a clear price. It says what's included, so there are no surprises.
  4. I get it done, tidily, and I'll show you how to use it.
